The Celtic people, who lived more than 20xx years ago feared the evening of Oct. 31 more than any other day of the year. It was the eve of their festival of Samhain. Samhain was a joyful harvest festival that marked the death of the old year and the beginning of a new one. The day itself was a time for paying homage to the sun god Baal who had provided the people with the ripened grain for use in the upcoming winter. Come evening evil spirits were everywhere. Charms and spells were said to have more power on the eve of Samhain. Several rituals were performed by the Celtic priests, Druids, to appease the Lord of the Dead.

UP國際少兒英語的老師給我們上了一堂生動(dòng)有趣的英語課。教室里，“黑蜘蛛”爬在墻上，各種南瓜燈和“妖魔鬼怪”的`可怕面具一列排開。老師把燈光熄掉，給我們看了有關(guān)萬圣節(jié)來歷的影片，我們學(xué)會(huì)了好多英語單詞。
兩個(gè)萬圣節(jié)的傳統(tǒng)游戲更是讓我們感受到了這個(gè)西方節(jié)日的趣味。Trick or Treat“不給糖吃就搗亂”：我們兩人一組去敲“主人”家的門，嘴里說著“Trick or Treat”，“主人”熱情地邊說“You are welcome”邊從南瓜帽中掏出幾顆糖果給我們吃。
另一個(gè)叫作Apple bobbing“咬蘋果”，游戲的規(guī)則是要咬到蘋果但不能用手幫忙。工作人員用筷子插在蘋果中間，再懸掛在繩子上。同學(xué)們五個(gè)一組，分別站著去咬蘋果，一個(gè)個(gè)伸直脖子漲紅了臉。我也躍躍欲試，終于輪到我啦，隨著老師的口令“one、two、three，go！”我使勁向掛在面前的蘋果咬去，嘴巴剛碰到蘋果，蘋果就滑開了。我不服氣地繼續(xù)去咬，可蘋果卻不停地溜走，我無奈地?fù)蠐夏�，還沒想到辦法游戲就結(jié)束了。

the colors black and orange are also a part of halloween. black is a symbol for night and orange is the color of pumpkins. a jack-o'-lantern is a hollowed-out pumpkin with a face carved on one side. candles are usually placed inside, giving the face a spooky glow.

我們剛?cè)サ侥膬�，看到那里有一堆各式各樣的面具，有紫色的，有橙色的，有粉色的，有白色的……我們選 了自己喜歡的面具，英語老師就給我們戴上了，然后，我們就進(jìn)了大教室。那里裝飾得很配萬圣節(jié)，老師們用紙做了大蜘蛛、蝙蝠和蜘蛛網(wǎng)掛在燈上。還買了幾只玩具蜘蛛掛在墻上，還做了一些蜘蛛網(wǎng)掛在墻上。她們還買了一些很小的南瓜燈放在角落和比較暗的.地方，因?yàn)槟菚r(shí)候沒開燈。
老師們?yōu)榱俗屛覀冇X得更恐怖，還放了一些恐怖的歌給我們聽。后來人都來齊了，老師就拿出來了一個(gè)壇子，上面有很多動(dòng)物。我們就玩了一個(gè)游戲，游戲規(guī)則是，選兩個(gè)人，老師說到什么動(dòng)物，你就得踩到那個(gè)動(dòng)物上面，誰踩到的動(dòng)物最多誰就贏了。而且，每贏一局就可以得一顆糖果。老師還教了我們“不給糖就搗蛋”用英語怎么說。
玩了游戲，老師又帶著我們?nèi)プ瞿瞎蠠�，因�(yàn)槟瞎侠锩娴臒舨粔�，所以我們只做了一個(gè)橙色的南瓜。做完南瓜燈我們又去用亮粉畫畫，我畫的是一些不一樣的糖果……
