伊索寓言：戀愛中的獅子（The lion in love）
A lion once fell in love with a beautiful girl, so he went to her parents and asked them to marry her to him.
The old parents did not know what to say.
They did not like the idea of giving their daughter to the lion, but they did not want to enrage the king of beasts.
At last the father said, "We are glad to marry our daughter to you, but we fear that you might possibly hurt her. So if you remove your claws and teeth, we will give her to you."
The lion loved the girl very much, so he trimmed his claws and took out his big teeth. When he came to the parents again, they simply laughed in his face, and beat him out of their house.
戀愛中的獅子
一只獅子愛上了一位美麗的女孩兒，便找到她的父母向她求婚。
女孩兒的父親不知道該如何回答，他不忍將女兒許配給野獸，但又害怕激怒這獸中之王。
于是父親說：“我們很樂意將女兒嫁給你，但又怕你不小心傷害她，如果你拔去牙齒，剁掉利爪，我們就將女兒嫁給你。”
獅子非常愛這個女孩兒，于是他修剪了爪子，拔掉了尖牙后又去找女孩的父母�？墒沁@時，他們嘲笑他，并把他趕了出去。
寓意: 有些人輕易相信別人的話，拋棄自己的長處，結(jié)果輕而易舉地被原來害怕他們的人擊敗了。

A farmer lives alone with his Daughter. She is very beautiful, and also very thoughtful. The Farmer loves his Daughter very much. Right now, they are working in the field together.. 有個一農(nóng)夫和他的女兒相依為命。她長得十分美麗，而且善解人意。農(nóng)夫非常寵愛她。一天，他們正一起在田里干活。
Father: Don’t work too hard, my dear. It is very hot today! You might get sick.
父親：不要太辛苦了，親愛的。今天很熱。你可能會生病的。
Daughter: Don’t worry about me, Father. Why don’t you go back home? I can do this by myself.
女兒：別為我擔(dān)心，爸爸。你為什么不回家去呢?我自己干就行了。
Father: No, no. let’s finish it together quickly.
父親：不，不!我們一起快點(diǎn)兒干完吧! A Lion comes down to the village from the forest. 一只獅子從森林里出來，來到村子。
Lion: Look at those two! Yum, yum. They look very delicious. It’s my lunch time. I shall eat them for lunch. Hee, hee, hee.

The Lion goes to the field.
獅子向田里走去。
Lion: Rrr…Rrr…I am the king of the forest! You two must be my lunch today. Get ready to die!
獅子：奧…我是森林。你們兩個今天得當(dāng)我的午餐。受死吧!
Father: Oh my goodness! A Lion! Where did it come from? Run away, my dear!
父親：哦，我的天啊!一只獅子!它是從哪里來的啊?快跑啊，親愛的!
Daughter: No, Father! I can’t leave you here alone. I will stay with you.
女兒：不，爸爸!我不能留你一個人在這里。我要跟你在一起。
Lion: You are a brave young girl! Come closer to me. Let me look at you.
獅子：你是一個勇敢地姑娘，走近點(diǎn)，讓我看看你。
The Lion takes a close look at the Farmer’s Daughter. She is so beautiful. He falls in love at first sight.
獅子仔細(xì)地看了看農(nóng)夫的女兒。她真美麗。獅子對她一見鐘情了。
Lion: You are not only brave, but also very beautiful, my dear. You are the most beautiful girl in the world! Will you marry me?
獅子：你不但勇敢，而且非常美麗，親愛的。你是世界上最美麗的女孩。你愿意嫁給我嗎?
Father: Marry you?! What do you mean? She can’t marry you!
父親：嫁給你?!你什么意思?她不能嫁給你!
Lion: Why not?! I am the king of the forest.
獅子：為什么?我是森林。
Father: Well, uh… She is too young to get married.
父親：嗯…她太年輕了，還不能結(jié)婚。
Lion: That doesn’t matter. She will grow old with me. Give your Daughter to me. Or else you will both die. What will you do?
獅子：沒關(guān)系。她會和我一起長大。把你的女兒給我。否則你們兩個都得死。你要怎么做?
Father: I must ask my daughter first. Please come back tomorrow. I will answer you then.
父親：我得先問問我的女兒。請你明天再來吧。到時候我會答復(fù)你的。
The Farmer and his Daughter return home.
農(nóng)夫和他的女兒回到家里。
Father: What shall we do, my dear? I can’t let you marry the Lion. But if you don’t marry him, he will eat us up.
父親：我們該怎么辦?親愛的。我不能讓你嫁給一只獅子。可是如果你不嫁給他，他會把我們都吃了。
Daughter: Don’t worry too much, Father. There must be a way. I’ll think of something. Ah ha! I’ve got it!
女兒：別太擔(dān)心，爸爸，一定會有辦法的。我會想辦法的。啊哈!我想到了!
The Daughter whispers something into her Father’s ears.
女兒在父親耳邊悄悄說了一些話。
Father: What a great idea! You are not only beautiful, but very smart, too.
父親：這真是一個好主意!你不僅漂亮，而且非常聰明。
The next day, the Farmer meets the Lion.
第二天，農(nóng)夫去見了獅子。
Lion: So what did your daughter say? Tell me at once!
獅子：你的女兒說了什么?馬上告訴我! Father; She said she will marry you. But…
父親：她說她愿意嫁給你。只是…
Lion: What is it? Tell me! What else did she say?
獅子：只是什么?告訴我!她還說什么了?
Father: She said she likes you very much. But she said she is afraid of your claws. What if you harm her by mistake? So I was thinking… Can you pull out your claws for her?

Lion: Why yes! I can do anything for her! Come back tomorrow.

The Lion goes back to his cave and pulls out all his claws. He is so happy. He can’t wait to marry the Farmer’s Daughter. 獅子回到他的洞中，拔掉了所有的爪子。他太開心了。他迫不及待地要迎娶農(nóng)夫的女兒。
Father: Hello there, Lion. Did you pull out all your claws?
父親：你好，獅子。你把所有的爪子都拔掉了嗎?
Lion: I pulled all of them out. Look for yourself! They are all gone. Now tell her to come to me.
獅子：我把它們都拔了，你自己看看吧!都沒了。叫她到我這兒來吧!
Father: But wait! There is one more thing. She said she is also afraid of your teeth. They are too sharp. What if you harm her with them? So I was thinking… Can you pull out all your teeth as well?
父親：可是等一等，還有一件事。她說她也害怕你的牙齒，它們太尖利了。你用牙齒傷到她怎么辦?所以我想…你能把牙齒也都拔掉嗎?
Lion: That is not a problem. I can do anything for her. I will pull out all of my teeth. Come back tomorrow with your daughter.

Father: I shall tell her. See you tomorrow, Lion.
父親：我會告訴她的。明天見，獅子。 This time the Lion goes back to his cave and pulls out all of his teeth. He looks into the mirror and smiles. He is excited about tomorrow’s wedding. 這次，獅子回到洞中，拔掉了所有的牙齒。他對著鏡子笑了笑。想到明天的婚禮，獅子感到很興奮。
Lion: Good morning, Farmer. I pulled out all of my teeth. Look for yourself! Now I have no sharp claws and no sharp teeth. I did everything as your daughter asked. I can’t harm her anymore. Where is she now? Where is my bride? Bring her to me. I want to marry her right now.
獅子：早上好，農(nóng)夫。我拔掉了所有的牙齒，你自己看看吧!現(xiàn)在我沒有尖爪和利牙了。你女兒要求的事情我都辦到了。我再也不會傷著她了。她在哪里?我的新娘在哪里?把她帶過來給我，我要馬上和她結(jié)婚。
Father: She is not coming here today. And she is not marrying you either!
父親：她今天沒來，而且也不會嫁給你。
Lion: What?! What do you mean? I pulled out my claws and teeth for her. She said…
獅子：什么?!你什么意思?我為她拔掉了爪子和牙齒。她說…
Father: Lion, you are so na?ve. You have no claws nor teeth. I am not afraid of you anymore. I won’t give my Daughter to you. Take this! And that!
