There are many, many traditional Chinese festivals, such as: the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn festival, chung yeung festival and so on. Lantern Festival is my favorite holiday, because in that day, I can see all kinds of lanterns.

Why, then, the Lantern Festival to admire the lanterns? There is a beautiful legend there also!

The fifteenth day of the first words in ancient times a year, a scholar in the palace garden for a walk. Suddenly, he heard from the corridor there came the voice of the cry, he went over to look.

Turned out to be a palace maid in a chair weeping. Scholar asked her: "why are you crying?" Maid-in-waiting said: "I called yuanxiao palace, this several days to come over, I want to go home. Take a look at the parents, however, don't agree in a palace maid of the palace." Hearing this, the writers are very sympathy for her, for she thought a good idea.

Literati riding out of the palace, came to the street. He said to the people: "tonight, vulcan advent world, you are on the door hung a small lantern, who do not hang, who will be a fire." Literati and wrote a letter to the emperor, the letter said, palace tonight will happen in the big fire. Everyone out of the palace to admire the lanterns only the court, to avoid the disaster. Emperor read letter, immediately ordered the palace of the tonight all people will be out of the palace lanterns.

From then on, there is a 15 to admire the lanterns became a convention in China, everyone call this day "Lantern Festival".

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This day's important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddha's body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central Plains to the whole of China.

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the country. Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets, attracting countless visitors. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during people's enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinnese has a similar pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family.

On the day of the Lantern Festival, my mother and I went to Yuanbo garden to watch the lantern show! As soon as I entered the gate, I saw a wide range of lanterns, including various forms, small rabbit shaped, lotus shaped, and towering big lanterns! wait.

When I finished reading it, I thought I wanted to make a beautiful lantern like that at the lantern show. As soon as I got home, I turned out my colored paper, cardboard and so on. But when I was ready, it was difficult again! my I can't conceive anything in my mind! Helpless, I had to search the Internet. When I searched, I saw a lot of methods jumping out of the web page quickly, which made me a little confused. So many, how long do I have to choose! But fortunately, my eyes suddenly fixed on this seemingly exquisite little lantern. I was staring at it, ah!

I have everything I make! Ha ha, God helps me. Thinking, I took action, first took out the red cardboard, cut it into four rectangular pieces of paper of the same size, and then found a few chopsticks, put them together into a rectangle, and then fixed them. Stick the red paper on the rectangle made of chopsticks, add some decoration and a lantern handle. It's finished. Looking at the lanterns I made by myself, I feel happy. Of course, I am also very satisfied with the lanterns I made by myself!
