由于童年的創(chuàng)傷以及成年后的吸毒經(jīng)歷，珍妮失去了活下去的勇氣，她在愛與不愛之間徘徊，不管是一開始還是結(jié)尾，她都選擇了離開。如果珍妮是一只自由的鳥，她一定會選擇留在阿甘身邊。她與阿甘一起祈禱“萬能的上帝，請讓我變成一只自由的鳥。”珍妮死了的時(shí)候阿甘去她的墓看她，就在阿甘要離開的時(shí)候，樹上的鳥飛了起來。阿甘回頭癡癡地望著，那是珍妮在與他道別，珍妮微笑著說：“我要走了。”

媽媽死之前和阿甘的談話沒有哭泣，像平常一樣說說話。因?yàn)榘⒏手�，媽媽知道這一天總會來的。
經(jīng)歷過太多生離死別的阿甘，阿甘最后發(fā)出了一聲請求：“如果沒有死亡該多好。”
如果沒有死亡，巴布可以看到自己的愿望終于達(dá)成了。如果沒有死亡，媽媽會看到自己的孫子是多么可愛。如果沒有死亡，珍妮和阿甘該會是多么幸福。
如果沒有如果，阿甘不會在最后憋回去那句話“不要上陌生人的車。”
